8 Weeks Worth of Challenges
Dive on in! Social Media Summer Camp 2011 is now open.
Though Phineas and Ferb love to sing about "104 days of summer vacation," for our Social Media Summer Camp, we'll focus on just eight weeks. Week One starts on June 5.
Weeks One Through Seven
You can complete these challenges in any order you wish. After you complete each one, indicate your completion by adding a post to your own blog about it. (If you don't have a blog yet, you can quickly and easily create one using Posterous.) There will be a post at this site with more details on each of these challenges.
NOTE: There are more than seven challenges here. We wanted to give you some options!
-
- Create or revamp your LinkedIn profile.
- Cull through your Facebook account, with the thought of "what would a potential employer think of this?" in mind
- Create a slideshow of your 20 best photos, with captions
- Read and review a book on social media.
- Interview one or more PR/social media pros
- Read a post at five or more different PR/social media pro blogs, then provide a thoughtful comment on each of those blogs about the posts you have read.
- Discuss a current ethical lapse in the public relations industry.
- Write a blog post making an analogy between public relations or social media and something unrelated that you're also interested in (for example, NASCAR, cooking, swimming, etc.)
- Go to Poynter's News University. Find five courses that look interesting/beneficial for you. Take one of the courses this week.
- As a blog post, have them analyze the portrayal of a public relations practitioner from a current movie or television series.
- Develop a short video and post it to YouTube, introducing yourself to a potential client or employer.
Week Eight
Develop a social media resume / digital portfolio for yourself using Wix, Weebly or VisualCV.
